Music Of The Moment: Back Door Slam

I will sing a new song.  I’m not listening to “Prairie Wedding” or “Why Can’t You Be?” this morning.  I’m not planning on listening to them this afternoon, either.  I’m going in a different direction and that direction is home.

Back Door Slam’s “Come Home” would be in the running for song of the year if the album was released this year.  It would have been in the running last year when it was released if I’d have heard it then.  Everything about this song just works.  There’s the Red Hot Chilli Peppers-styled bass intro, the smoldering guitar work of Davy Knowles.  Knowles also delivers a great vocal with just the right amount of passion.  He doesn’t overdo it in a pathetic attempt to prove his blues street cred, but he isn’t unaffected.  There’s fire in this song.  There’s blood and life and vitality.  Oh, and it rocks.  As good as it is on record, I bet it’s even better on stage.

I’m going to see these guys one day.

  1. “I bet it’s even better on stage.”

    ‘Tis.

I am annoyed these guys had this album out for a year under my radar, yet shit like “Umbrella” gets jammed down our throats.

  2. Boy you said it, Chewie. I’m always happy to discover a great new record but sometimes get frustrated when I arrive at the party a year, two years, 10 years behind everyone else.
