Springsteen Magic Tour Set List 07/27/08 E. Rutherford, NJ #1: “Rosalita” Closes Night 1 in Giants Stadium

We’re back in the U.S.A., a stretch of dates for the home crowd at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. The set list is, well, it is what it is. Some fantastic songs got played at night one in E. Rutherford but some tired shit was interspersed.

For once, “Mary’s Place” makes sense to me. No, I still don’t like the song. I’m just thinking the crowd needed a respite after the trifecta of “Youngstown,” “Murder Incorporated,” and “The Promised Land.” That had to be blistering. According to one report, “Mary’s Place” lasted 14 minutes without band intros. With “Working On The Highway” played after, that gives the crowd a nice chance to catch their breath, catch a smoke, a beer, a run to the terlet.

The 30-song set had a lot of great ones mixed in. I’m disappointed to see “Gypsy Biker” and “Reason to Believe” have recently been benched, but damn happy to see house favorite “Girls In Their Summer Clothes” back in its rightful spot in the encore.

  1. He BETTER play ‘Girls’ in the encore or ELSE. Hmph!

I can live with the rest.

i hope so too. you deserve to hear it. i mean, geebies, you’ve got to put up with josh!! ;-)

i still don’t see what’s so wrong with “Mary’s Place” but then again, i also like Bobby Jean. heaven forbid.

Stop saying things like that. Someone will believe you! I don’t despise “Bobby Jean,” but I don’t like it very much. There’s no reason for these songs to be played nearly as often as they are.

You’ll do more than live with the rest, dear. You have no idea how great these songs are until you hear some of them live. You’ll be asking me to rip some songs for your iPod the day after the show.

  4. 14 minutes of Marys, followed by Workin On The Hightway…hell, thats two smokes, a beer, and a trip to the john. Ya’ see there are reasons for these things during a 3 hour Springsteen show (he’s also gettin closer and closer to that 3 1/2 hour mark he was famous for the seventies and eighties). If I wasn’t so broke right now, I’d be on the next plane to Jersey…

P.S. And I still think Bobby Jean works just fine in the encores.

  5. Let me clarify my clarification for the umpteenth time: he can play “Bobby Jean,” just not 3/4 of the shows. Same with “Mary.” Bruce obviously likes that song for reasons defying understanding. He shouldn’t play that song 30 consecutive shows (and we’re damn close to the 30 mark).

BITUSA and Rising album cuts are not encore material.

  6. Stop saying things like that. Someone will believe you!

hey, if i have no problem with people knowing i can’t stand every second of Tunnel of Love….

  7. You’re going to live to regret this stuff. My brother wants you cockpunched for the Staind/AiC bit of last week… you’re making friends and influencing people, ShyBoy.

  8. gee, i thought you guys valued honest in the south.

    ;-)
