From 18,000 Songs Down to 14
Some days the driving force that gets me to the office is the knowledge that I’ll have some time to listen to music. I can only imagine the look on my face when a co-worker stops by my cube to ask me a question, forcing me to remove my earbuds so I can answer them.
Some days I wake up with a musical plan, like when there’s an album I need to review or I’m getting ready for an upcoming concert. Sometimes I’m just in a particular “mode” or wake up with a song in my head, and my musical path for the day is set before me.
There are days like today where it’s all a blank slate. Not listening to music is just not an option. I have 18,000 songs at my fingertips. I have to listen to something and I want to listen to something. Deciding on what isn’t always that easy.
Some days I spend the entire day looking for the right band/album and other days it comes quickly. Yesterday was easy. Pearl Jam’s Benaroya Hall show was perfect. Today has gotten off to a good start, too.
I started by listening to my Counting Crows’ random playlist, which drove me to straight to Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. There is a strong, strong possibility this is going to be my album of the year. I like it more every time I listen to it.
“Cowboys” and “Anyone But You” are the recommended tracks for today, hard-hitting songs both. “Cowboys” is from the Saturday Nights record, “Anyone But You” from Sunday Mornings.
