Let The Countdown Begin - Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band, Nashville, August 21

There’s something about the progression from June to July and finally to August that makes the Springsteen Nashville show feel a little more real to me.  I was buzzing after scoring two nice lower level seats for the show in late June.  The show’s approach was on my radar in July but still felt a long way away.  Waking up this morning, I realized it’s August 1st.  21 days.  21 days until I see my second Bruce Springsteen show.  21 days until I take TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried to see her first.

In addition to continuing to chronicle the set lists at each show between now and that Nashville date, I thought I’d do a little countdown action of my own.  Countdowns are tricky business.  They require things I’m not good at, but I’m going to make a run at it.

Beginning tomorrow, I’m going to countdown the 20 songs I’d like to hear in Nashville and why.  Here are the self-imposed rules:  no repeats from my Atlanta show.  These have to be songs I’ve never heard.  Also, these are going to be in reverse order; the Aug. 21 entry will be the song I want to hear most.  That means songs like “Rosalita” and “Blinded By The Light” won’t be included because I heard them in Atlanta.  The same goes for “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run,” both of which were also played.  It means I won’t be asking for a double dip on “Reason to Believe” or “Out in The Streets.”  Together we’re going to countdown the 20 Springsteen songs I’ve never heard that I most want to hear.

I think this will be a fun way to count down the days until the show.  For starters, it will help to counterbalance my bitching about the continued playing of “Mary’s Place” and fucking “Bobby Jean.”  I’ve already heard the latter and I’ll go ahead give you a spoiler- the former isn’t in my Top 20.

Spend a few moments jotting down the 20 songs you most want to hear that you’ve never heard, BruceHeads.  We’ll compare notes as I unveil a new song each day.  Tune in tomorrow for #20.

  1. Ok, I saw him in Atlanta, too, so your “out” songs will be mine, too, AND I have floor tickets to see Bruce in Nashville…I cannot wait.
My picks for Nashville: Atlantic City, Devils & Dust, Gypsy Biker, Racing in the Street, For You, Jungleland, Because the Night, The River, I’m On Fire, Detroit Medley, 4th of July, Magic, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Tunnel of Love, Ghost of Tom Joad, Youngstown, Give the Girl a Kiss, Tougher Than the Rest, War, Hungry Heart. I think.

  2. Stephanie, thanks for playing along! Atlanta was great, wasn’t it? Just incredible.

That’s a great, great list you have there and as you’ll see over the coming days we have more than a few common requests. I hope you’ll continue to visit the site and share your thoughts on my list and we’ll continue comparing notes.

  3. Can someone send Stephanie’s list to Camp Springsteen?

  4. I have a feeling you’ll like her list better than mine, but mine is a good one, sir.

  5. The Price You Pay…but you already knew that, right?
