Springsteen Nashville August 21, 2008: “Amazing”
“This guy could fuck up a cup of coffee.*”
Only I could fuck up a homefield advantage by walking a half-mile the wrong way after the show, but in my defense it wasn’t really me. It was two corpses strolling out of that arena. The last thing I remember doing was dropping a few bucks in the coffers of the local food bank. After that it’s all a big fuckin’ blur. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band committed at least two counts of murder in the first degree. Three hours? Three fucking hours? Are you even kidding me?
Our hotel, it turns out, is popular with Springsteen attendees because it’s less than half a mile from the Sommet Center. That means we didn’t have to pay extra for parking (although the hotel does charge a daily parking fee). It should have been easy. It should have been simple. I missed that turn in Albequerque and left my wallet in El Segundo. When we finally got it straightened out, we limped back into the hotel. It’s only because this is the shortest distance I’ve been from a major show — and a quick infusion of caffeine — that I’m able to share any of these thoughts with you tonight.
Two quotes from TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried, who lost her E Street virginity (and people, that’s my wife we’re talking about so you’ll do well to leave that bit alone, thanks). “Amazing.” “Best show I’ve ever seen. By far.”
My thoughts… the night was a bit of a roller coaster for me but as I said earlier today I’d trade all the songs I wanted to hear for just one and we sure as you’re born got it. I have nothing but gratitude in my heart and a smile on my face.
I’ll write more up about it in the coming days. In the meantime, our vacation to Nashville to celebrate the anniversary continues. Let’s be clear, though: it can’t help but be downhill from here and that’s a good thing.

Nice setlist. Nice way to open the encore
Really glad you guys had a fabulous time. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend, you sure got off to a good start.
You’re not kidding. It was a wonderful show and I’ll have more about it in the coming days. Right now we’re off to score some lunch and hit the city.
Who was the person that was a guest on stage… He seemed to play but I was not sure who he was?? DOes anyhone one know??
Dave Bielanko of Marah. I thought he looked like a fish out of water up there.
they should let me onstage for one tune. i’d give it my best shot.
Twas a grand show, even with lousy seats. Consider me one of the faithful now.
I thought I made out “Marah” but wasn’t sure. He seemed to be having fun but didn’t look like he really knew how to play the song. It was funny but strange.
wait, Brewster and Josh went to the same show?!
that’s right!
We even met up for food before hand and I learned a few scandalous things about the wifetowhomheismarried, but I’m sworn to secrecy for as long as Josh keeps paying me.
From behind that Dave guy looked like Ryan Adams which got me all a-tingle, until they showed his face on the big screen (by the way the camera work for the big screens was excellent). He totally looked out of place though.
Last I heard Brewster was complaining about spending dough on concert tix, what the hell is he doing driving to TN for a show?
he gave in to my heavy lobbying campaign.
Tis true. Mark is persuasive.
Plus we were already in Nashville visiting the wife’s family.
Brer Hathaway is right; This was an amazing show. Just amazing.
Hey, wait a minute. April 21?
josh has temporarily lost his mind.
