Springsteen Magic Set Lists 08/23/08 and 08/24/08: St. Louis and Kansas City, MO
I’m still recovering from Nashville and I’m not finished talking about it, but before we go back to that let’s keep up with what Bruce did in St. Louis and Kansas City. There’s a lot of great, fun stuff in both of these shows and I’d love to handle them one at a time and really highlight it, but I’m very behind so I’m going to toss these out there for your review.
Worth paying a little attention to though is the debut of “Devils & Dust” in Kansas City. It’s a shame it took so long for that to come out.

I was at the St. Louis show and it was a religeous experience (please excuse the hyperbole). The best of the three shows I saw this tour (I was also at Cincinnati, which has a rather unwarranted dodgy reputation, and Columbus, which was pretty killer in its own right). It’s just too bad that, as with all great things, it has to end. My only complaint is that I still have yet to hear anything from Tunnel of Love in my 9 years and 9 shows as a Bruce concert goer. That just gives me something to look forward to next tour! Stay strong, Big Man!
JRL, I echo your sentiments regarding Tunnel. The key for that seems to be Patti. When she’s not there, he doesn’t play that record. When she is, you stand a fair chance of getting something from it.
That makes sense to me. And she’s be absent from more than half of the shows I’ve seen, so there you go. I’ve gotten around 90 different songs total, though, so I really can’t complain! Sounds like the Nashville show you saw was awesome and my wife would certainly be jealous. She’s a casual fan and, after all the jaw droppers we heard in St. Louis, she was still disappointed that he didn’t play I’m on Fire (!).
I have never been a big fan of “I’m On Fire” but it was surprisingly good in Nashville. It didn’t annoy me as much as it did on the record — sorry, I just never took to that one.
I’m jealous of St. Louis getting “Adam,” “Gypsy,” and “Because The Night.”
I can appreciate that- I’ve never been a fan of Glory Days but it works much better live and the crowd loves it.
I’ve always kind of liked that one and it wasn’t until this tour he started playing it again. I didn’t luck into it, but I did very well overall in Nashville and Atlanta.
Man, it’s too bad you weren’t at the Columbus- Glory Days, Because the Night, Adam Raised a Cain, and Gypsy Biker all in the same show (and a very sweet show at that). But Atlanta and Nashville look like they were awesome as well. Enough fun for everyone.
My wife and I were only half joking when we talked about following them to St. Louis after the Nashville show. 2 wasn’t enough for me. Maybe some day I’ll be able to really follow the band across multiple cities like that.
