R.E.M. Accelerate Tour Set List 08/28/08 Southampton, UK
Wow, what an awful way to open a show. “Bad Day” to open? “Bad Day” = Bad Song. Yuck.
I love that “It’s The End of The World As We Know It” closed the main set. I know they’ve played it 10,000,000 times since Document, but that’s a perfect encore or main set closer. Why fight it?

why is Bad Day a bad song? it must be the lyrics because the music is prototypical REM.
Absolutely brilliant!
That’s a fair question. I sometimes spit these things out there and assume everyone is in my head and understands where I’m coming from. I’ll try to explain a little bit. I think I’ve had this discussion before, but it might not have ever really shown up here.
My problem with it is that it’s a little too prototypical R.E.M. all the way around. The lyrics are structured in the “It’s The End Of The World” mode only with a little less creativity and the music, well, it’s almost a carbon copy of “ITEOTWAWKI” as well. I feel like I’ve heard this song from them and heard it better, musically and lyrically.
i certainly heard the musical similarity between the two songs, and the chorus has certain echoes as well.
and of course, i didn’t catch any of the lyrics.
