Ryan Adams Set List 10/05/08 Madison, WI: Marathon in Madison

There’s the Thrilla in Manilla, The Miracle on Ice, and now we have the Marathon in Madison. Ryan Adams, according to legend, is prone to every once in awhile firing off a classic, elongated show that sends the masses home in a frenzy. Topping out at a curfew-busting 31 songs, this might have been that show.

We get a repeat of the “Everybody Knows,” “Wonderwall,” “Come Pick Me Up” trifecta from St. Louis.
“Let it Ride” and “Desire” are once again in the set. “Mockingbird” and “Magnolia Mountain” from Cold Roses are great in the second set, and the impossibly good “Dear Chicago” is also there. Amazing.

  1. Don’t know if you’re following the Ryan Adams Archive or not, but this epic show finally popped up there. I wish it was pure soundboard, those from this tour have been beautiful, and many with “onstage mics,” like this one, tend to be a little “gamey ’round the midrange,” if you know what I mean. Other times, the rare occurrence, they’re perfect. I haven’t grabbed this yet, and his page on archive.org doesn’t have it to preview yet, so I can’t say what the outcome will be.

  2. By the way, the Neal Casal song that they’ve been doing, “Freeway to the Canyon,” is friggin’ great. Of course, the damned album is only available as a pricey import, but I may have to order this - samples on Amazon indicate this is some solid stuff.

  3. Curses. My show in Tulsa was cancelled. Supposedly it was due to several Cardinals having the flu, but I’m still not ruling out Mr. Adams just being the spaz he has been in the past.
