Tuatara, Victoria Williams Are The Voices In My Head

We’ll call today’s entry Josh Hathaway’s Endless Playlist.  I had a song pop in my head that I wouldn’t have expected, but I’m so glad.

I haven’t listened to Tuatara’s East of the Sun in quite awhile, but I’ve been humming a few bars of “Rainbow Drops” all morning.  East was the first Tuatara record to feature vocalists, “Rainbow Drops” featuring the lead vocal talents of Victoria Williams.

There is something very catchy about this song despite it not being an overt pop song.  Williams’ unique voice and delivery sounds so good in this setting.  East of the Sun has so many excellent moments, and this is one of the highlights.  The endless playlist in my head has great taste.

  1. Do you have any of Victoria Williams albums? I like her a lot, but she is definitely not for everyone. She has a very unique voice and again it isn’t for everyone.

  2. Tempted I am to edit your comment and remove the “very” from “unique.”

She does have a unique voice, a distinctive one. I don’t know if I could listen to it for hours on end, but it’s very nice on this song.

  3. i have Musings Of A Creek Dipper and absolutely love it. of course, i’m always drawn to weirdo voices.

  4. That’s a good one Mark as is Loose and Happy Come Home. The voice is unique and her musical styling go all over the place. At one moment she’s folky then jazzy, next she’s singing a spiritual followed by something like a circus. She isn’t something I can listen to at all times, but in the right moment I just love her.
