Listening Room: David Gilmour – “Mihalis”
I wanted to put the two new Gilmours in the CD player last night when I got home from Sears and the mall. I wanted to get some work done. Even though I didn’t have to put the tires on myself, I was still tired. I guess getting strung along can exhaust a person. Either that, or I’m getting old. Maybe all of the above.
Anyway, I wound up listening to On An Island instead. Oh, and I finally started watching my Blu-ray Remember That Night DVD. Let me just say I’m not overly impressed with the crispness and clarity of the visuals on the RtN Blu-ray. Anyway, I listened to and watched stuff I already had at the expense of the two new Gilmours I bought last night. I’m correcting that this morning.
I’ve started with David Gilmour, his 1978 solo debut. I’m already excited about this purchase and I’m only one song into the record. “Mihalis” is a great instrumental piece, showing off Gilmour’s fluid style and inimitable touch and taste. Joe Satriani’s “Flying in a Blue Dream” owes a tip of the cap to this song. The two aren’t carbon copies of one another by any stretch, but there seems a common sonic thread.
Am I in a hurry? Come here and let me slap you.

love that first Gilmour solo record.
but you already knew that.
You’ve mentioned that. I finished the record today and I really like a good bit of it. I’m particularly fond of the instrumentals, but I like much of the album as a whole.
