Breaking Through The Block
We interrupt our briefly scheduled plans…
I promised Duke I’d be working on a proper review of Richard Hawley’s Lady’s Bridge after he turned me on to the album last Thursday. That’s what I intended to do until I glanced at a stack of overdue review materials sitting on the table next to me, so Richard will have to wait- I hope not for long.
First up… Popa Chubby’s Deliveries After Dark from Blind Pig Records. I’m looking forward to this one because Blind Pig supllied my Album of the Year last year (Peter Karp’s Shadows & Cracks). Will lightning strike twice? I’m listening right now. We’ll soon have an answer. Speaking of Peter, Popa Chubby namechecks him in the liner note acknowledgements. PC co-produced a few tracks on S&C. I’m choosing to refer to him with the initials PC rather than Popa or Chubby because I just can’t bring myself to do it. PC won’t be the first artist with the need to overcome a bad moniker.
