Grammy Reaction Quick Hitters: Mississippi Delta Bluesmen, Rahim Al Haj

Another Grammy ceremony, another disappointment.

No, I’m not talking about Amy, Kanye, or Foo Fighters. In fact, I didn’t actually watch the telecast. I know, I know. Mr. Music Fanboy didn’t watch the Grammys. So what disappointed me?

The World Music category. I was hoping Rahim Al Haj would win tonight, but the Grammy went to Soweto Gosepl Choir for African Spirit. I’m sure it’s a wonderful album and I mean to take nothing away from them. My hopes were based on having listened to Al Haj’s most recent record Home Again and having had the pleasure of interviewing him on BSCA. He’s got a fascinating story and that story has inspired some beautiful compositions.

On a happier note, well done for The Last of The Mississippi Delta Bluesmen for their win for Best Traditional Blues Album. Two of the four greats who are part of that record have since left us, making the album all the more special.

  1. I, happily, get to congratulate Honeyboy in person in about 15 hours. I was so excited about this particular win.

Don’t worry about missing the Grammys. It was little more than a gratuitous cluster fuck, as always. More R&B and rap/hip hop shit than anything else. Yawn
