Led Zeppelin and How The West Remains The Same Song
We leave the year 2007 for a moment, and it’s the fault of Mark Saleski.
Mark just picked up a copy of the re-mastered and expanded The Song Remains The Same. He made mention of the more recently-released live Zep album How The West Was Won and I was overtaken by an urge to hear that.
I haven’t listened to this much since I got it. The sheer scope and magnitude of it makes it hard to digest and I have a thing about live albums: I like to listen to them in their entirety. It’s not an unbreakable rule but it is a preference. It’s not easy to listen to HTWWW in its entirety without interruption, especially with John Bonham’s 6-day drum solo.
Still, I’ve queued it up and I’ll get to hear a lot of it before I leave for the day and that’s a good thing. I, like nearly every other classic rock geek, have memorized the studio versions of Zep’s songs. Hearing them like this breathes life into them and makes for a great way to start the weekend.
