Liveblogging Accelerate: “Sing for the Submarine”
Finally some jangle! We’ve had more Peter Buck on this record but it was all Monster distortion and no Murmur jangle. This is the closest thing to that so far on the record and we’re almost done here.
I can’t really tell what he’s singing about; that’s welcome. Something that’s not so singular in purpose, direct, and obvious. I typically like directness in the lyrics but Stipe is at his best when you don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.
Jangle, jangle, jangle… yes! They need to be playing this one on tour!
There’s a little less noise on this one, too. Best song so far? Ahhh… maybe not yet. I am enjoying it. It will need subsequent listens to see if it stands up.
What the fuck? Is this a Led Zeppelin, Middle Eastern dirge in the bridge?

I like this song but the line ending with the words “electron blue” bothers me. Is that weird?
I didn’t catch that at the end of the song. Hmmm. I don’t think it’s weird that it bothers you, though.
