Liveblogging Accelerate: “Supernatural Superserious”
Superserious… yeah, that’s a good word for the first three songs on this album; not a lot of humor or lightness yet.
This is Michael Stipe’s New Adventures in Hi-Fi moment. He’s signing like Katherine Hepburn having an epileptic seizure. I know, I used that line on BSCA last Thursday. This is the only song I’d heard prior to today because it’s the first single.
I’ll tell you… this one has grown on me since the first listen. It’s a little more melodic than “Living Well,” so that’s an improvement. The Hepburn, quaking delivery abates on the chorus. CHORUS! Yes, this song has one. Sort of! Mills sounds great on the backing vocals on this one. R.E.M. is singing! Glorious!
It’s not a great single and there are some quirks, but I’m coming around on this one.
