Music Of The Moment: Tom Petty - Wildflowers
I should have known Tom would have the answer! I decided to listen to Wildflowers this morning and as “You Don’t Know How it Feels” fades into the third track it hit me: “Time To Move On.” Yes. Yes it is.
How great did he and The Heartbreakers sound last night? I’ve never heard them sound better or stronger. Tom nailed the high notes on “Free Fallin’” and recent birthday boy Michael Campbell was en fuego! They were fabulous and I was (mostly) right on the songs that were played. I loved it.
As for the rest of last night, House didn’t record and in the words of my 3-year old niece, “Stop looking at my face!” I have a piece of packing tape barricading the entrance to my cube this morning. If it were permitted, I would take a picture of it and post it here. After the last two Super Bowls, football is like Fredo in the dingy.
Oh, great, now “Only A Broken Heart” is on. I told you Tom Petty has the answers.

Tom Petty sounded good last night and he played stuff I actually knew. YAY! That made watching the halftime show more enjoyable. Mark & I thought about you when he started playing.
GO GIANTS!!!!
Comment ruthlessly edited, COAF.Have you ever been happier not to see nipples than during last night’s halftime show?
They really did sound great, though. I loved it.
I was happy that there was a good performer on stage. Prince was good last year. But overall the last few shows have been a bit lackluster…my mom was disappointed by the lack of nipple at the halftime show this year. She said the game needed something exciting to happen…too bad she went home at the end of the 4thQtr with 1:59 on the clock.
Lackluster? These last few shows have been the few halftime shows that were any good! U2, Paul McCartney, Prince, and now Tom Petty have all been a MAJOR step above typical bland, pop-star-o-the-moment halftime fare. I’m glad the whole Janet issue occurred because it turned the halftime shows around to something people actually wanted to watch.
Don’t forget the Stones in there. They were pretty good a couple years ago, too. The Janet disaster does seem to have had an overall positive impact on the halftime shows that have followed.
The Stones & Sir Paul were kind of blah…I liked Prince’s performance last year.
Sir Paul was a little blah to me but I liked what the Stones did. Prince was strong last year but I had to watch it on YouTube because I boycotted last year’s Super Bowl. I may boycott them all from now on.
