My Afternoon With Adam Duritz, Part 3
I had something else in mind when I started writing Part 2 and I got totally fucking sidetracked. Here’s what I wanted to say then.
I’ve been going through the transcript and it’s a long process and even though the interview was thoroughly enjoyable, this part isn’t. It’s great to hear it again, but I have to keep backing it up and playing it forward, slowly getting what he said down on paper. I’m not good at this, but it needs to be done and I’m eager to do it despite not really being into it.
What’s making the transcription job more frustrating is that I’m listening to Adam talk about all of these songs and all I want to do is stop the tape and go listen to Counting Crows records. Of the many things I took from yesterday’s conversation, one of them was a new enthusiasm and passion for and understanding of Counting Crows’ music. I want to delve inside these songs and go to these places and look around and see what’s there- but if I do that, I may not come back for awhile and I have a job to do, so I’m sitting here staring angrily at the pile of Counting Crows CDs on my desk. They’re calling to me, taunting me, and all I can do is stare at them and ask them to wait for me. They will. Neither of us is happy about it.
