One More For The Road: Gerry Hundt - Since Way Back
After all that “mood” music from earlier, I decided to liven things up and have a little fun. Gerry Hundt’s Since Way Back might be the most fun I had listening to a record last year.
Since Way Back can be appreciated on so many levels. It’s fun! The joy of these musicians is audible in every note and every song. You can hear and feel the smiles. It’s refreshing; there aren’t many Chicago blues records sporting mandolin as the lead instrument. It’s also a serious blues record. The lack of torment and should not be confused with a lack of intensity. This is a record that rocks, jukes, smokes, and smiles; not a bad way to end a bleary-eyed day.
