Soundtrack for a Monday: U2 - “The Wanderer”

I chose to listen to “The Wanderer” this morning mostly because of the title. I wanted to get the week off on the right foot as far as actually doing something on the site. Unfortunately, every week starts with a Monday and this week is no exception. The next good thing that happens to me on a Monday will be the first. So we begin the week with “The Wanderer,” my attempt to find my voice and footing at the beginning of a day and a week when I feel emptier than Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s weekend wedding vows.

I’m not alert enough to try and bring any new insight to the song. It’s U2 & Johnny Cash! It seems to have been the perfect song for the morning and I feel like I’m slowly waking up. I definitely should have stopped for coffee…

  1. Sorry, but this is quite possibly the worst arrangement ever on what could have been a great song. I am hoping there’s a different version of this in the archives that’s waiting to see the light of day.

  2. Yeah the music is cheesy bordering on terrible, but it is a great Cash vocal with some cool lyrics.

  3. I don’t hate the music, actually. I like the Beach Boys-styled harmonies from The Edge over the futuristic keyboards. I think it’s an interesting juxtaposition of sounds that don’t seem to fit, but somehow do.

There are supposedly different versions in the archives, though.
