The First Great Re-Issue of 2008: Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode: His Complete ’50s Chess Recordings

With apologies to the very nice reissue of Odelay, the first great re-issue of 2008 is unquestionably Johnny B. Goode: His Complete ’50s Chess Recordings.

Once again, TheWifeToWhomI’mMarried comes through in a big way. She bought this set for me as a little gift and I am already crazy about it through one disc of the four.

I feel like Indiana Jones on an archeology adventure listening to this set, but without horrifying creatures or Nazis (”I hate these guys”). The sense of awe and wonder in the presence of the sacred treasure is the same. Ownership of Johnny B. Goode should be fucking mandatory for anyone who wants to be in a band. This is the origin of the species right here.

On the 8th day, Chuck said “Let there be rock.”
