About Me
The Fanboy has a home!
Confessions of a Fanboy began as a column I started writing for Blogcritics. This web site began as a recurring column. The hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations I had for it have evolved and grown into this.
Hopes, dreams, and aspirations is a fancy way of saying I have found a way and place to spend hours talking about music. I’ve often joked that it’s cruel for someone as passionate about music as I am to have such limited musical ability- if by limited you mean none whatsoever. Like every other white male, I tried learning to play guitar in college. I found that I was capable of forming chords, so long as I didn’t have to switch between them. I also found that I hate “F” chords despite loving the “F” word.
My passion for music extends beyond music. I am also an avid sports fan and will love the Oakland Raiders and Boston Red Sox until the day I die. I am also a pretty big Alabama Crimson Tide fan. Once again, a whole lot of passion and no talent to speak of. I don’t play sports. I pay other people to do that.
I mention all of this because the mug shot you see on this very page has a bit of a story to it: It was taken at my niece’s birthday party, held at a skating rink where they happened to be showing the Alabama/Ole Miss football game. I was able to sneak away because once you’ve watched your niece and her friends skate in a circle for half an hour, you pretty much have the visual committed to memory. I slipped away to catch a couple minutes of the game, wearing a recently-purchased Tom Petty concert T-shirt and my Alabama Crimson Tide cap. Welcome to my world.
