A long time ago, on a web site far, far away a group of ‘netfriends collaborated on a web site called The Mondo Project. Great time, it was. Many good things were written. Much banter was bantered. We even did these things we called Hot Topics, in which we’d form a round table and yakk [...]

Short show in Bogata last night, and not much to get too excited about. “Animal” and “Sweetness Follows” are probably the two songs played the least on this tour, and both have been plaed. “Sweetness” is, of course, awesome. “Animal” is less. Not a great show, but not a bad one [...]

2008 will go down in history for many reasons. For starters, because that’s what every year does when it’s over. It’s a stupid phrase. This year will go down in history. As opposed to what every other fucking year does? What the fuck?
Anyway, this being an election year there will be certain stories that will [...]

Guest Reviewer 11:
In June of this year, Lord Hathaway and I found ourselves at an R.E.M. show at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta. On the bill prior to the almost-hometown heroes were a pair of opening acts: The National, and Modest Mouse.
I usually don’t pay much attention to opening acts. Oh, I pay attention in the [...]

So, how did AC/DC’s plan to distribute their new album Black Ice exclusively in the US through Walmart work out for them? Not bad. They are set to debut at #1 on the US charts, selling more than 780,000 copies in its first week.
Of course, Black Ice went to #1 in 28 other countries and [...]

I’ve been waiting for the Deluxe Re-issue announcements to start pouring in for Christmas 2008. Of course if you watch TV or read the news, you’re probably under the impression that Christmas has been canceled this year. You lot isn’t going to buy anything, so why bother celebrating?
Anyway, I’ve been waiting for an announcement from [...]

24 songs is not bad for a festival-length set, and they managed to put a rarity in there as well. “West of the Fields” is not one of the more oft-played I.R.S. songs, so that’s a nice treat for the NOLA crowd at Voodoo. Beyond that, we have a nicely balanced set of [...]

Just like Bob Dylan, R.E.M. Is bringing it all back home… for a minute. The band played a set in Dallas, has one scheduled for the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans, and then it’s off to S. America, depriving me of a chance to catch them a second time this year.

Just what I needed: a reminder that A) I haven’t written my review of Oasis’ Dig Out Your Soul and B) why I love Noel Gallagher.
Gallagher is already talking about the next Oasis record, believe it or not. He says he’s started writing some material for it that he likens to mid-period Kinks. He’s also [...]
