Last night it was STP’s Tiny Music. Today it’s Matthew Sweet’s “We’re The Same.” I need to be going through my piles of new music and soaking it all in but I keep getting songs stuck in my head and I haven’t been able to focus on the new.
I fell deep in like with Matthew [...]

I just spent an astronomical amount of money on new music. I’m sitting in my office, organizing my collection with the addition of another CD tower. I could be listening to any of the discs in the slab of music I just bought, but I got Stone Temple Pilots’ “Big Bang Baby” from their Tiny [...]

I went to my favorite indie/used CD store this evening — actually, it’s the only one in town and the selection isn’t always great but I’ve been shopping there for years and I like them more than I don’t — and you won’t believe which two CDs I found there, waiting for me…

I woke up with two goals for today: get some work done at the office and watch/listen to the Guyville Redux DVD that accompanies the 15th anniversary edition of Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville, a set I bought this week. Before I could do that, I found myself humming “Hannah & Gabi” by The [...]

I had to jump through hoops to get it but I am finally listening to American Music Club’s Everclear a mere 16 years after its release.
The journey to today has been long and winding, and it begins with Screaming Trees. I became a big Screaming Trees fan in the ’90s during the big grunge [...]

After high school and on and off throughout my college years, I worked at Blockbuster Video. Those of you who have ever frequented video stores are probably familiar with the preview tapes that are played on the monitors in the store. There is no escape from it. You get one trailer, per [...]

I heard “All I Know,” the first single from Dust, for the first time on the road to Colorado. I still remember my excitement.
“A new Screaming Trees record!”
“So,” she said, sounding about as disinterested as humanly possible.
“You don’t understand,” I said, pleading my case. “It’s Lanegan!”
I should have turned the Subaru around right [...]

I wish I got into all that psychobabble and analysis and shit because I’d be curious what it says when you begin your day with Deftones.
I woke up this morning in the mood for some big guitars, yet I don’t feel all that angst-y. Still, for some reason I needed to hear “Digital Bath” [...]
