It’s that time of year again. No, not the anniversary of Elliott’s passing (that’s next month). I mean my birthday. It’s rapidly approaching. I don’t usually think too much about it because I neither look forward to it nor do I dread it. The way I see it any calendar day you choose is 365 [...]

Elliott Smith isn’t “every day” music for me and he wouldn’t be even if the sad circumstances of his death weren’t what they are. Listening to Elliott is an exposed nerve. I have to be in a right state of mind to travel to the places his music inhabit inside me.

In what has to be the least shocking developments imaginable, Bruce did include “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” and “Independence Day” in his 4th of July set in Sweden. Perhaps even less shocking than that is “Mary’s Place” was again played. Actually, what’s somewhat remarkable about this show is how much it [...]

Gray sogginess, half a cigarette, a cup of coffee, and 29 Elliott Smith songs all in a row. This is a Friday? I guess so.

It’s startling how quickly a day can spin out of control or how quickly I can spiral into one of my moody little funks.

Welcome to the Buyer’s Remorse column for 2007. I called my shot and named my Top 10 Albums of the Year, and already I’m pissed about all the great records I didn’t get to mention. Fortunately there’s an easy remedy for that. In no particular order (unless otherwise noted), here are a [...]

The cherry has been busted; the first ever edition of The B-Sides Concept Album program has aired and, if I may be bold, it was an unqualified success.
The main topic for the evening was Bruce Springsteen. We rehashed Magic, discussed the current tour, and reflected on a few of our favorites. Guests Mark [...]

America is preparing to celebrate/survive Thanksgiving and Confessions of a Fanboy is ready to throw down. Bring me the finest turkeys and pumpkin pies in all the land!
I tried to think of Thanksgiving-themed songs for a Thanksgiving Day playlist, but the only song on my iPod that has the word “turkey” in it is [...]

I didn’t realize until I compiled this list just what an active, productive, and awesome music-listening day I had today. I knew I was listening to some great music but it wasn’t until I got to see the cumulative total of it all that I realized just how great.
I rule.
