I guess we’re getting the Christmas lumps of fuck started early because I’m pissed about something else this morning.

There are some bands incapable of cool. It’s a wise man (or band) who, rather than taking pains to prove this, accepts this. Until yesterday, Coldplay had been very wise.
A Jay-Z cameo? Are you just kidding me? What’s next? The Partridge Family and Kanye West? Okay, that’s not entirely fair. I do like Coldplay and [...]

Russia has the right idea but the wrong rationale. The Russian legislature is considering a bill that would crack down on emo web sites and ban emo/goth dress in schools and government buildings. The purported reason behind the restrictions is the belief of a link between emo/goth youth and suicide and depression. Suicide and [...]

If you look at the sales ad for SatanBestBuy you might be under the impression that Mariah Carey is the only one releasing a new album this week. What’s worse is that Best Buy’s sales ad could give one the impression they think this is a good thing. Is it any wonder I [...]

Even when they get it right, they still get it wrong.
Van Halen fans have been waiting for more than a decade to see David Lee Roth back in front of the band he helped launch to worldwide superstardom, and it was announced today that wish will be fulfilled. Great! So, what’s the problem?
Roth [...]

“Like I Need a Hole in My Head” was one of the first columns I conceived when I began planning Fanboy. “Like I Need a Hole in My Head,” nicked from a Cracker song, was conceived of because of news like a Spice Girls reunion tour.
This cannot be happening! How can there be [...]

I am a complete dolt for taking chart performance personally, but I am play-in-traffic depressed that Linkin Park had the best first-week sales of any record this year with sales topping 623,000. Meanwhile, Wilco scored their second Top 10 debut as Sky Blue Sky debuted at #4, selling 87,000 copies.
I wouldn’t like Wilco any [...]

One of the original series planned for this site was “Like I Need a Hole in My Head.†That series is dedicated to the horrendous side of music. I love it when an idea is validated. I just wish it didn’t have to be this one. Unfortunately, bad ideas spring from [...]
