After repeated attempts to “shop locally,” I ended buying my 25th Anniversary Edition of Murmur from Amazon. Amazon has increasingly become my retailer of choice over the past 18 months and I probably should have started there, but that’s another day on Donahue.

‘Tis the season for mental retardation.
Twas the week of Black Friday and I went out
in search of new music
but I came home with a pout
That’s as far as I’m going to take this silly parody/rhyming scheme, because fuck that. I went to Satan Best Buy tonight for three CDs and came out with two. [...]

Don’t you love it when some dope slaughters a language in an attempt at humor? I hear you, Mexico City! Wow. This is a stout list! Let’s skip right to the encore trifecta of “I Believe,” “Country Feedback,” and “Life and How to Live It.” “Life” has only been played three other times on this [...]

I’m probably the only person in America who thinks it’s funny when they play “Drive” and “Driver 8” back-to-back. I wonder if Peruvians share my sense of humor. Probably not.
I don’t have some fancy database configured to prove it, but I’d be shocked if this exact set list hasn’t been used on some other date [...]

The best thing I can say about this one is they took “She Just Wants To Be” out of the encore and put “Pretty Persuasion” there. Yes, they still played “SJWTB,” but if you’re going to have to hear it it’s best to get it over in the main set. Every time I mock “SJWTB,” [...]

Have you ever fallen in love with a song and had absolutely no idea why? It happens to me. A lot. I know why I like most of the songs I like, but there are plenty that I just have no explanation for. Take “Laughing,” from R.E.M.’s classic debut record Murmur.
Most of my favorite songs [...]

The secret seems to be to see the band on the second night of a two-night stand. “Maps And Legends” is the big shocker in this list. “7 Chinese Brothers” and “Pretty Persuasion” haven’t been played as often and neither has “Begin the Begin.” Yeah, this would have been one to see.

Nothing remarkable here. They must be saving it up for night two.

You just can’t make some people happy, can you? R.E.M. got their choice for president and they’re still flinging “Ignoreland” and “Exhuming McCarthy.” So much for the honeymoon.

“Cuyahoga” is still in the encore and that’s largely what sets this set list apart from others on this tour. I’m running out of things to say about these set lists. Fortunately we’re about to run out of set lists as I haven’t seen what the band will be doing when their S. American run [...]
