It Never Ends…

And sometimes that’s a good thing.  I got some belated birthday gifts this week, and they are good ones.  I’ll be listening to them and writing about them in the coming days.

Noel Gallagher Names Beatles, Stones, Who Among Top 10 Bands Of All Time

Despite having claimed to not know how to send text messages or e-mail, Oasis’ Noel Gallagher is maintaining something of a road journal on Oasis’ web site as the band kicks off their tour for the upcoming Dig Out Your Soul LP. In his latest entry, Noel says he and his co-horts have once [...]

About Last Night- Wait, That’s Not A Scorsese Picture!

I bought a copy of the new Martin Scorsese flick Shine A Light on Blu-ray DVD yesterday.  It’s based on the true story of this British band called The Rolling Stones that’s kind of old and they play a concert at the Beacon Theater in New York City.  That Scorsese!  He thinks of everything.
I liked [...]

Tuesday’s New Releases: The Stones Shine a Blu-Ray Light; Magic Junk Radio 11

I have a confession to make.  I like Tuesdays better than Fridays most weeks.  I love new releases.  This week isn’t as dense as last week and only one of my two purchases is actually going to cost me a dime.  After last week, I need the break.
First up- Martin Scorsese’s tour film of the [...]

Billboard Beatdown: George Strait Outduels R.E.M.

31 albums made their Billboard 200 chart debut, and George Strait came out on top. There are at least 166,000 people not depressed by that fact. I am not one of them. Troubador, or True Bore, as I like to call it, is his fourth #1 album
R.E.M. came in second place [...]

I Just Listened to The Rolling Stones’ Shine A Light And Boys is My Hand Tired

There aren’t many feelings worse than having to admit Mark Saleski may have been right about something, but here it goes.
I mentioned purchasing Natalie Goldberg’s Old Friend from far Away a few weeks ago at his urging. One of her suggestions is to eschew computer-aided writing in favor of pen and notebook, a practice [...]

Happy 64th Birthday, Keith Richards

Keith Richards turned 64 today. Let me go ahead and get this out of the way upfront: are we sure they didn’t forget to add a zero or 12?
I feel better getting that out of the way; now we can move on and celebrate the lives and times of Keith Richards. Damn [...]

Hey! Hey! You! You! Get Off Of My Cloud!

I feel… good!
I feel alive. Man, last night’s interview with Peter Karp on the B-Sides Concept Album program I host could not have possibly gone any better. I had trouble going to sleep after the high of a really enjoyable conversation with an artist whose work I respect and enjoy so much. [...]

Music of the Moment: “Midnight Rambler” — The Rolling Stones

Chief Antagonist Mark Saleski’s Friday Morning Listen has helped chart the course for my day. This week’s installment is about RAWK ANTHEMS and he sites the Ya-Ya’s live version of “Midnight Rambler” as one of his. I’ve never thought of “Midnight Rambler” as an anthem but I love that song and love that [...]

Eagles’ First Album in 28 Years — Long Road Out of Eden –To Be Double Album, Wal-Mart Exclusive

Make mine a double.
It’s kind of funny that it’s taken The Eagles 28 years to record a new album and when they return, it’s with a 2-CD set being sold exclusively through Wal-Mart. Oh, the times, they are a-changing.
28 years for a double makes you wonder why they couldn’t have aimed for a single [...]
